Audio - Cesaria Evora - Angola (Get down Dub)

Those of you that know me, know that I was part of Sol Collective Art and Cultural Center. It is also where I kept my studio. On Wednesday morning, last week, a 2-alarm fire took down the much of the building I worked at and called home as an artist. News of the fire was painful in so many ways. I lost everything I acquired to create art. I’m not sure what this means for me yet but only time will tell. I’m taking some time to recover and regroup.

I recently moved to LA which means change for me. I had a hard time last week saying goodbye to one of my youth groups as we finished up a project we worked on for a couple of months. They are a great group of people that have bright futures ahead of them. I feel lucky to have been a part of their lives.

The biggest compliment I have ever received came from my daughter last week. Something about this painting spoke to her so she claimed it. The feeling I got from that was more than words can describe. At 14, she is a brilliant and captivating young estrella with a bright future ahead of her.

Once a week I got a chance to paint alongside some amazing artists from Sacramento. Most of these artists are people I have never met. The mix of styles and personalities make for an eclectic night but it’s the art that keeps this session so unique. Every week there are new people painting and sharing. As I learn to paint around others, I’ll continue to post pics and feature artists.

Be a little more creative in your hating please. I guess it’s a compliment?

I found an old pic from a digital camera in storage. It’s a skate board ramp project I did gratis for an artist working with Planet Asia. They didn’t like it because of the picture I used but it was for free so why complain if you are not going to pay for time and effort?

It’s amazing to be able to experience such amazing art from talented people like Shaun Turner. After a few hours of buffing his show, Life, Death, and Rebirth, we were able to document a little rebirth of our own last night. Shaun painted one of his characters in front of Sol Collective late last night on Del Paso Blvd.
